2020: Year in Review
It goes without saying that 2020 was a difficult year – for everybody. We spent the year in lockdown at home, juggling home-schooling and home-working, and clinking glasses with our webcams for what seemed like a million Zoom quizzes and conversations with loved ones we hadn’t seen in person for months.
I started the year in my own home, surrounded by so, so many of my closest friends – many of whom had travelled across the country or, in one case, across the world to be there. Little did any of us know that just months later, even the smallest gathering would be prohibited. When the lockdown was first announced, there was a flurry of panic: couples were suddenly postponing their weddings, moving them to dates in the far future and leaving my calendar looking barer than ever. What was originally going to be my busiest year so far now looked stark and empty, apart from a couple of photoshoots and the one wedding I’d managed to fit in at the beginning of the year.
Luckily, we got a brief little window in summer where things were – albeit temporarily – loosened. That little window was just the right amount of time I needed to fit in a myriad of styled photoshoots, engagement sessions, couple shoots and, amazingly, two more weddings. And that’s what this blog post is dedicated to: those little sparks of joy that lifted 2020 up. The micro-weddings in the sunshine; the amazing couples who persevered with their plans despite it all; the shift from tradition to personalisation and intimacy.
To those that got to say “I do” – thank you for having me be part of such a special day amidst such strange times. Thank you for bringing light into 2020, and for giving me the most amazing memories.
To those who are still waiting – I’m here, and I’m waiting right alongside you. I am so excited to finally celebrate all those postponed weddings, and to see all my amazing couples have the day of their dreams. Whether it’s micro or massive, it doesn’t really matter in the end. All that matters is that your nearest and dearest are with you, celebrating your love, lives, and happiness.
Harry Potter: Maybe that's the best reason to have it. Because of everything that's going on.
